WILSON MIDDLE SCHOOL - HOME OF THE LIONS
WELCOME!

Welcome to Adventures in Learning! I'm Ms. Burkhardt. I will be your teacher for English/Language Arts (which involves reading, writing, spelling and grammar) and History (which focuses on ancient civilizations).
This year is going to be full of wonderful surprises. As you walk through the doors of Wilson Middle School, you're going to notice that our campus is much larger than the elementary school you attended. Not only do we have a cafeteria where you may eat your lunch, but there's a canteen that serves food, and there are also food carts out in the quad. You'll notice a large gymnasium and two fields in our P.E. area. You can play basketball, soccer, or football during lunch, as well as visit the library on the 2nd floor of the main building, where you can read, do internet research, or play quiet games. There's also a game room in the quad area that is open most mornings before school offically begins. (Click the Wilson Middle School Map Tab to see an aeriel view of the school.)
Not only has the size of your campus changed, but your class schedule will change quite a bit, as well. Our school is on a block schedule with 4 periods in each day, so your classes will be quite a bit longer than you're used to. In the sixth grade, you will have English/Language Arts and Math every day for 78 minutes, probably during periods 1 and 2. You'll most likely have Science and History during 3rd period, and P.E. and Elective class during 4th period. Science and History class will rotate--you'll go to Science one day and History the next. Your P.E. and elective class will follow the same pattern. (To find out more about your class schedule, check out the slideshow below.)
Those are just a few of the many changes that you'll be facing as you enter sixth grade. I'm looking forward to meeting you and learning about your unique talents and desires. I have a feeling it's going to be a wonderful year!
